Wednesday:

7:00PM CHAIN GANG STARTS WEDNESDAY: Meet 6:45 for 7:00pm start at South end of Peel Rd on Pimbo industrial estate, opposite Scott Safety. There are generally 5 groups depending on numbers. IMPORTANT this is not a coached session, everyone in the group is collectively responsible, there are no official leaders. Group speeds are 16-18 / 19-20 / 21-22 / 23-24 / 24-25 mph. Don’t ride in a group which is too quick for you and disrupt the session, equally, don’t ride in a group too slow for you and push the pace, disrupting the session.

Chain gang etiquette:

  1. When it’s your turn on the front you DO NOT accelerate, keep riding at the same speed or you will  drop the person behind you / force them to accelerate and split the line behind you.
  2. When you move over (off the front), SLOW DOWN by 10% to allow the next rider through. If you do not slow down, you will force the rider coming through to accelerate to get past (as above) and this will split the line.
  3. When you move across, don’t swing out into the middle of the road, move across 1m only and keep the 2 lines close together, riders should be shoulder to shoulder.
  4. Keep your ego in check, don’t surge off the front to show how strong you are, it ruins the session and you look like a knob.
  5. The aim of a chaingang is for the group to travel as fast as possible as a team. If you surge, split it or generally try to drop people in a show of strength, you will constantly be stopping and regrouping. Come to the session to ‘ride as a chaingang’ or ride on your own.
  6. It’s 10 laps, when 9 laps have been completed and there is 1 lap to go, ignore everything above. All bets are off.

GOOD QUALITY BIKE LIGHTS and CYCLE HELMETS are compulsory for this session and high viz recommended. Remember, this is not a coached or organised session. There will be no official leaders telling you how to ride, all riders are responsible for themselves and others and ride at their own risk. You should be 16+ to ride this session, it is not safe or suitable for children.

9:00AM WIGAN HAIGH HALL PARK RUN: The Wigan Park Run takes place at Haigh Hall, starting close to the cafe / children’s play area at the top end of the park. All abilities are welcome, this is a times 5k but very much aimed at novices. You must register in advance via the Parkrun website and print / bring your barcode. It’s free to register, but this must be done in advance if you wish to take part. To register GO HERE

4:00PM COACHED SWIM SESSION HINDLEY: Both Seniors and junior swimmers, Hindley pool in Wigan, WN2 3QN. Organised by WTC. Arrive 3:45pm for 4:00pm start.

9:00AM NOVICE TRAIL RUNNING GROUP: Novice trail running group every Sunday 9am at Hilldale Village Hall. This group is very much aimed at novices and fitness, all abilities are welcome. Week 210, Week Commencing 2/10/17

 

Monday:

6:30PM RUN TRAINING WITH WIGAN PHOENIX: Wigan Phoenix are a local running club who cater for ALL ABILITY LEVELS. On Monday evenings, they have an interval session, meet 6:00pm at Thompson House Stables, on Pepper Lane, Standish.

9:00PM COACHED SWIM SESSION NYE BEVAN, SKELMERSDALE: organised by West Lancs Tri, £6 on the night, coach and contact Neil Thomson.

Wednesday:

7:00PM CHAIN GANG STARTS WEDNESDAY: Meet 6:45 for 7:00pm start at South end of Peel Rd on Pimbo industrial estate, opposite Scott Safety. There will be 5 groups depending on numbers, this is not a coached session, everyone in the group is collectively responsible. Group speeds are 16-18 / 19-20 / 21-22 / 23-24 / 24-25 mph. Don’t ride in a group which is too quick for you and disrupt the session, equally, don’t ride in a group too slow for you and push the pace, disrupting the session.

Chain gang etiquette:

  1. When it’s your turn on the front you DO NOT accelerate, keep riding at the same speed or you will  drop the person behind you / force them to accelerate and split the line behind you.
  2. When you move over (off the front), SLOW DOWN by 10% to allow the next rider through. If you do not slow down, you will force the rider coming through to accelerate to get past (as above) and this will split the line.
  3. When you move across, don’t swing out into the middle of the road, move across 1m only and keep the 2 lines close together, riders should be shoulder to shoulder.
  4. Keep your ego in check, don’t surge off the front to show how strong you are, it ruins the session and you look like a knob.
  5. The aim of a chaingang is for the group to travel as fast as possible as a team. If you surge, split it or generally try to drop people in a show of strength, you will constantly be stopping and regrouping. Come to the session to ‘ride as a chaingang’ or ride on your own.
  6. It’s 10 laps, when 9 laps have been completed and there is 1 lap to go, ignore everything above. All bets are off.

GOOD QUALITY BIKE LIGHTS and CYCLE HELMETS are compulsory for this session and high viz recommended. Remember, this is not a coached or organised session. There will be no official leaders telling you how to ride, all riders are responsible for themselves and others and ride at their own risk. You should be 16+ to ride this session, it is not safe or suitable for children.
