Sunday was a big day for racing locally. The Kona of the North, Horwich Triathlon saw 500 local athletes race to the pike, with great weather and a fantastic atmosphere. In the men’s race, the field was ‘stacked’ with local talent. Local Ironman legend Brian Fogarty
came back from injury issues to take the win, but was pushed all the way to the line by Tom Rigby. The up and coming George Martindale completed the podium with a stellar performance. In the ladies race, Bex Rimmington made it 2 weeks in a row, with a near 17 minute margin over Alice Trevail, with Shirley Hunt completing the podium (and taking the first V50 prize!). In the EPIC Club Championships, Preston Tri regained their title with a huge turnout, but they were pushed all the way by a super strong Mersey Tri Team who turned out in force. Preston Tri won £1000 from the Epic Kidz charity, to donate to a local cause of their choice.
There was also some hot racing at the Wilmslow triathlon, in South Manchester. In the men’s race, Mark Chadwick of Wigan Tri took the win by 1 minute over Matt Barnes (Man tri), with John Potter completing the podium. In the ladies race Fiona Blagg from Man Tri took the win over Jennifer Pybis (St Helens Tri), with Rebecca Whalley completing the podium.
